YummyJury is an app that allows you and your group to easily vote on where to eat. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we store it, and what your rights are.

1. The short version

YummyJury collects only the data needed to run group restaurant decisions. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't track you across apps or websites. There are no email and password logins. When you first open the app, it creates an anonymous authentication record on our backend with a random identifier so the app can keep your session state. This identifier doesn't link to who you are in the real world.

2. What data we collect

When you use YummyJury, the app collects the following information:

• Display name. When you join a session, you choose a name to show other jurors (your group members). This is whatever you want it to be, and it doesn't have to be your real name.
• Precise location. When you create a session, the app uses your device's GPS, or an address you enter manually, to find nearby restaurants. We store the latitude and longitude of the session's search center so the jury can see restaurants near that location. We store this for the host who created the session only; we don't track each juror's location.
• Coarse location. We derive the city and state label from your precise location to display alongside the session (for example, "Brooklyn, NY"). This is generated from your precise location and stored as a readable label.
• Allergens. If you have food allergies, you can enter them so other jurors in your session see warnings about restaurants that may contain those allergens. This is health-related information and we treat it accordingly.
• Dietary restrictions. You can indicate whether you're vegetarian or vegan so the jury can take it into account. This is health-related information.
• Dietary notes. You can add a free-text note about other dietary preferences or restrictions. Because this is free text, it can contain health-related information. We treat it as health data regardless of what's in it.
• Cuisine preferences. When you join a session, you can pick the cuisines you're in the mood for. These guide what restaurants the jury sees.
• Votes. During the voting phase, you allocate conviction points to restaurants. Your individual votes are not shown to other jurors.
• Avatar selection. You can customize your juror avatar (face style, hair, accessories). This is purely cosmetic and is generated entirely on your device. No avatar data is sent to any third-party service.
• Anonymous device identifier. When you first open the app, your device is assigned a random identifier (a UUID — a long random string of characters and numbers). This identifier lets the app remember which sessions you've joined so you can reconnect if you close the app. It is not your name, email, phone number, advertising ID, or any hardware identifier from your device. It is not linked to any identity outside YummyJury.
• Connection metadata. When the app connects to our backend, our authentication provider (Supabase, see Section 5) logs your device's IP address and user-agent string as part of standard authentication session records. This is not used to track you across the internet, build a profile, or for any marketing purpose. It's an automatic backend logging that authentication services typically perform for security and abuse prevention. We do not access or use this data beyond what's required to keep the service running.

We do not collect:

• Your name, email, phone number, or any account credentials (there are no sign-ups)
• Your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data
• Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) or any cross-app tracking identifier
• Your browsing history or usage of other apps
• Any payment information (the app is free; there are no in-app purchases at this time)
• Any custom analytics, crash reporting, or behavioral telemetry — we don't bundle Sentry, Amplitude, Firebase Analytics, Segment, or similar SDKs

3. Why we collect this data

We collect this data for one purpose: to run the group decision feature you're using. Specifically:

• Display names let jurors see who's in the session
• Locations let us show nearby restaurants
• Allergens and dietary restrictions let the jury see warnings on restaurants that may not be safe or appropriate
• Cuisine preferences and votes power the decision mechanic
• Avatar selections and dietary notes personalize the experience
• The anonymous device identifier lets you reconnect to your session if the app closes

We do not use any of this data for marketing, profiling, advertising, or analytics beyond the app's basic functionality.

4. How long we store this data

Session data (your display name, allergens, dietary restrictions, cuisine preferences, votes, and the session's location) is stored only as long as the session exists. Sessions are deleted automatically when they end normally, when they expire (lobbies after roughly two hours, solo sessions after thirty minutes), or when the host ends them manually. Sessions that progress past the lobby stage and are then abandoned without anyone ending them may persist longer; you can request deletion at any time using the contact info below.

Your anonymous device identifier persists on your device (in the app's local storage) until you delete the app. If you delete and reinstall the app, you'll get a new identifier and any past session data associated with the old identifier will no longer be reachable from your device.

If you contact us to delete your data, we'll honor the request within 30 days.

5. Where we store this data

YummyJury stores data using Supabase, a database and authentication service. Supabase processes data on our behalf and is subject to their own privacy practices. You can read Supabase's privacy policy at https://supabase.com/privacy.

The Supabase instance YummyJury uses is hosted in the United States.

6. Who we share this data with

YummyJury does not sell your data to anyone. We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for marketing purposes.

We share data only as needed to run the app:

• With other jurors in your session. Your display name, avatar, allergens, dietary restrictions, dietary notes, and cuisine preferences are visible to other people in the same session. Your individual votes are not shared with other jurors.
• With Google Places API. When the app fetches restaurant data, it sends your session's location (latitude and longitude) and your cuisine preferences to Google's Places API to retrieve nearby restaurants. If anyone in the session has a vegan dietary preference (or in solo mode, a vegan or vegetarian preference) that word is also included as a search term (for example, "vegan italian restaurants") so Google returns relevant matches. We do not send your name, allergens, or any identifier to Google. Google's use of this data is governed by their own privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
• Restaurant data and photos displayed in the app come from Google Places. We are not responsible for the accuracy of restaurant information, hours, photos, websites, or any other detail provided by third parties.
• In-app browser. When you tap "View Menu" on a restaurant card, the app opens that restaurant's website inside an in-app browser. Loading that website is a direct connection between your device and the restaurant's web server (or any service the restaurant uses), and those third parties can see your IP address, user-agent, and any cookies your device sends in the same way they would if you opened the site in Safari. YummyJury does not intercept, read, store, or share any data from that browsing. We do not track users across websites or apps. We do not use the App Tracking Transparency framework because we do not collect any data used to track you.
• With Supabase, our backend processor (see Section 5).

7. Allergen and dietary information

YummyJury surfaces allergen and dietary information as warnings, not as guarantees. In group mode, the app does not filter restaurants based on allergens or dietary restrictions. Every juror sees the same restaurant list, with badges flagging concerns. (If any juror is vegan, the app does include "vegan" as one of the cuisine search terms sent to Google, but the results are not filtered, and non-vegan restaurants can still appear in the list.) In solo mode, if you select a vegetarian or vegan preference, the app does filter the list to restaurants tagged accordingly by our data sources; those tags come from Google Places and may be incomplete or out of date. A restaurant card showing "no peanut concerns identified" does not mean the restaurant is safe for people with peanut allergies. It means the app's data sources did not identify peanut content.

Always confirm allergen and dietary safety directly with the restaurant before ordering.

8. Your rights

Because YummyJury doesn't have user accounts, the simplest way to exercise privacy rights is:

• To stop collecting your data: delete the app from your device. Your device identifier will no longer be associated with your device, and your local data is removed.
• To delete data already collected: contact us at the email at the bottom of this page. Tell us your approximate device identifier (or describe the sessions you participated in) and we'll delete the associated server-side data within 30 days.
• To access your data: contact us. We'll provide a copy of any data we hold associated with your anonymous identifier within 30 days.

If you're located in a jurisdiction with specific data protection rights (such as the European Union's GDPR or California's CCPA), those rights also apply. Contact us to exercise them.

9. Children's privacy

YummyJury is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data through the app, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

If we update this privacy policy, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
